Why We’re Celebrating
In 1977, a group of locals came together with a simple idea. Build something community-owned, where profits go back to the people who shop there. That idea became Peninsula Co-op, and nearly 50 years later, it’s still going strong.
Today, we’re proud to share the next chapter in that story: The Liquor Co. 1977. What started on the Saanich Peninsula has grown, but the heart of it hasn’t changed. We’re here to support, serve, and connect with the people around us. Since opening our first two liquor stores in 2021, we’ve grown to ten refreshed and rebranded locations.
Each one has been thoughtfully shaped, inspired by the spirit of 1977 and built on the values we were founded on—community, connection, and quality. Our stores are warm and welcoming, with teams who know their stuff and love to share it. Whether you’re after a new favourite, curious about what’s local, or just looking for a friendly face, we’re here for it.

Each of our ten stores will be buzzing with excitement, tastings, giveaways and prizes. We’ve partnered with some of the best in the industry from iconic names to local favourites and they’ll be onsite to share samples, insights and good vibes.
