Meet Clayton – Manager, Yates
How did you get started in the liquor industry, and what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
I started in the industry as a Bartender, which grew my passion for mixology. The biggest lesson I learned is to treat people the way you would want to be treated, and always look at business from a customer’s perspective.
What’s your most memorable experience on the job?
The most memorable experience I’ve had on the job was participating in the Stella Artois Draught Master competition, where I represented Vancouver Island.
What’s your go-to drink to impress a crowd?
My go-to drink lately is the Spirit of ’77 single cask malt whisky, crafted exclusively for Liquor Co.1977 by Fermentorium Distilling Company in Victoria, it’s a great conversation piece wherever I go.
What’s a hidden gem product at the Yates store that people should know about?
There are many hidden gems at Liquor Co. 1977 on Yates. Everything from fine wine to high-end spirits, with an extra-large selection of single-serve drinks, you should be able to find everything and more when shopping here.
What’s a surprising fact or talent you have outside of work?
A surprising talent I have is that I can pour two beers into two glasses at once with perfect precision. This was very useful when I would bartend beer gardens at special events. Everyone would be in my lineup as I could pour twice as fast as anyone else.
